This cut-through bunker was built as a group shelter in 1940. In 2010, it was split into two separate parts by cutting out and removing a section of around one metre wide. This was done as part of the Molenkade government maintenance project. The cutting work (which required the use of a diamond saw blade to get through the metres-thick reinforced concrete) lasted four weeks. A staircase was built that leads from the dyke to a path running through the bunker and down to the water. The water bordering the path is lined with posts that indicate the height that the water would reach if the area were to be flooded. Today, the area surrounding the bunker is used as a flood plain for excess water in the case of heavy rainfall.
