The Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is situated between Achterstraat and Brederodestraat. The church was built between 1877 and 1879 by Johannes Dumolin to a design by Utrecht architect Alfred Tepe, who also designed the church and presbytery at Everdingen. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a neo-Gothic 3-aisled hall church without a tower. The church has a modest stair tower in the sacristy with a bell cast in 1925 by the royal bell foundry Petit & Fritsen. Inside the church, you can find a variety of sculptures by the neo-Gothic artist Friedrich Wilhelm Mengelberg. The church is connected via a corridor to the presbytery built in 1939. The garden of the church is arranged as an arboretum (tree garden).

The plan to build this church came about when the clandestine church used in the garden of Voorstraat 45 became too small. Since the Reformation, the Catholic Church was housed in various locations around Vianen. The community was able to use the guesthouse chapel and the clandestine church at the location of the current Vianen Municipal Museum. The church was consecrated and put into use on 1 July 1879.
